With the days ticking down to the Christmas break, most people are busy pushing jobs and projects out of the way, buying last-minute presents and preparing for a well-earned break.
But not you!
Tradie businesses are a bit different from most others. Many tradies work in “reactive” trades, where people will only call you when something goes terribly wrong.
This can happen at any time of the year – as such, you need to be ready to respond to these emergencies when they happen.
As a result, a lot of tradies won’t be hanging their boots up or taking off their work belts. In fact, many tradies will actually be working even harder over the Christmas break.
Of course, you’re not the only one. With so many tradies eager to get in on the action, your tradie marketing efforts need to be on point!
Your work doesn’t stop… and neither should your SEO!
As we’ve mentioned in the past, tradie SEO (and search engine optimisation in general) is an ongoing process.
It requires a lot of work to keep you ranking high on Google – not only because search engines are constantly tweaking their results, but because many of your competitors will be doing their own tradie SEO!
And when it comes to Christmas, we recommend getting in touch with your tradie marketing agency and tweaking your tradie SEO strategy.
In particular, you’ll want to start pushing out holiday-related content.
Imagine you’ve just experienced a burst pipe. You start looking for a plumber… in particular, a plumber that’s open during the Christmas holiday.
That means performing searches like “plumber that’s open during Christmas”.
By asking your tradie marketing agency to start pumping out Christmas-related content weeks in advance, your website will start ranking for Christmas and plumbing-related searches.
For example, if you’re a mechanic that can mean publishing blogs with titles that include words like “We’re open during Christmas”.
Think Adwords
While our bread-and-butter might be SEO, by no means is it the only tool in your tradie marketing toolbox. You can’t ignore the power of AdWords!
When the silly season comes around, you’ll want your tradie advertising strategy to follow a similar path to your SEO strategy. That means including Christmas-related searches in your current Adwords campaigns.
Another good idea is to tweak your Adwords text to include phrases and headings like “OPEN CHRISTMAS”.
That’s because what a lot of tradies will do is recycle old ads – that means seeing generally-worded ads when you search for Christmas-related service.
Putting words like “Christmas” and “holidays” make the Christmas connection really, really hard to miss. Not to mention, that’s exactly what your customers are looking for so you’ll really want to emphasise that!
You can even take this a step further by creating landing pages (pages your tradie advertising will redirect to) that explicitly mention your Christmas service.
Just be warned: it’s not out of the ordinary for ad prices to skyrocket during the Christmas period. If you want your tradie advertising strategy to bring in those sweet, sweet holiday callouts, you might need to think about upping your advertising budget!
Get social
People are going to have a lot more spare time around Christmas. That means catching up on TV shows, getting back into hobbies and of course, scrolling through social media.
As such, social media advertising is a powerful tool for tradie advertising. The strength of social media advertising isn’t its huge reach (though that’s certainly impressive) – it’s the fact that social media platforms come with a huge range of options to target your tradie advertising.
Let’s look at Facebook. On Facebook, you can target specific people on a scarily large range of factors, including:
- Location
- Demographics
- Interests and hobbies
- Past behaviour
For example, let’s say you’ll be offering roadside assistance over Christmas and there happens to be a major stretch of freeway in your service area.
This is where the hobbies, interests and behaviours part of Facebook advertising comes tin play.
In this case, you can target Christmas and holiday tradie advertising towards people who have either expressed an interest in day trips and road trips or who have gone on Christmas trips in the past.
The result? They might end up saving your contact details on the off-chance that they do run into an emergency on the road and happen to be in your neck of the woods!
Using Facebook’s analysis of many factors combined with external data, you can target people directly based on how likely they are to need you over Christmas, which is priceless if you want to land more jobs these coming holidays.
